Athlean P. ("Athie") Thompson, died on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. The only child of Edward P. and Helma (Olson) Boreson, she was born in Neenah, WI, on October 30, 1935. After graduation from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, she was united in marriage on August 10, 1957, to Claud Thompson, who survives. After a short teaching career in Reedsburg, WI, she chose to devote her energy to her family as a stay-at-home mom, and to volunteer service, which included many years as financial secretary of the Algoma Blvd. United Methodist Church, media center helper at Emmeline Cook School, and helper at the Ecumenical Food Pantry. She was an active member of the local AAUW branch and its book club, and as a charter member of the Jennie Marvin Antiquists, she served as Historian. Four children and four grandchildren, all of whom she adored, cherish her memory. Daughters are Ruth (Larry) Olson, and Sarah Thompson. Sons are John Thompson, and Mark (Alison) Thompson. Grandchildren are Kristin and Amy Olson, and Andrew and Brent Thompson.A celebration of her life will be held at Algoma Blvd. United Methodist Church at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, May 23, 2008, with Pastor Barry Yarbro officiating. Friends may call on Friday at the church from 12:00 P.M. until the time of the service. Memorials may be directed to the Algoma Blvd. United Methodist Church, the Red Bird Mission, or charities of one's choice.
