Cheryl Ann Knasel, 75, of Sister Bay, Wisconsin, died on October 6, 2023. Jesus compassionately ended Cher's suffering, and she now joyfully lives in her heavenly home with her Savior, parents, brother (Robert W. Slottke), grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins who have preceded her in death.
Cheryl was born on February 2, 1948 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Robert J. and Dolores (nee Anderson) Slottke.
Cheryl became a member of God's family through baptism on June 20, 1948 at Redemption Ev. Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. She was confirmed in the faith at Redemption on May 29, 1962.
Cher was a member of Milwaukee's Custer High School graduating class of January 1966. In May 1977 she received her Certificate of Cosmetology from Milwaukee Area Technical College. Cher furthered her education by earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee in December 1981.
Cher's varied career included positions as Office Manager of Milwaukee Child Welfare Bureau, Designer and Sales Manager for The Reflective Image, Executive Account Assistant responsible for promotional items including catalog shoots at K-Promotions, newsroom assistant for WTMJ-TV Channel Four, and Hospitality Server at the Bradley Center. Cher retired as the Auxiliary Services Operations Manager for UWM.
Cher's hobbies and interests were varied, creative, and full of life. She enjoyed photography, writing, design, sewing, crafts, jewelry making, theatre, and travel. Favorite places to travel included Key West, which she visited several times, Sanibel and Captiva Islands, Wisconsin Dells and Washington Island. And, of course, Door County where she lived her final years. Cher's sewing ability was impressive. She designed for the Walton Scott line where her designs were displayed in boutiques in Milwaukee, Madison and Chicago. She created and designed her own online business called "Deesigns by Cher", which was named in honor of her mother. Cher also loved plants, flowers and gardening. She even had a greenhouse at one point when she owned a "mini-farm" property.
Those who knew Cher spoke of her kindness. Cher was compassionate and selflessly cared for family members during terminal illness. She was a devout Christian, strong in Faith, which was the guiding force in her life. She served her church through Ladies Aid Society and helped serve meals at congregational gatherings. Cher will be greatly missed.
Cher and her family would like to extend special thanks to Sandra Ward, Art and Laura Stege, Scott Gregory and the members of Christ Lutheran Church in Baileys Harbor for their kindness and support during difficult days. Cher's cousins and their wives, Jim (Sue) and Dale (Judy) Anderson provided great assistance after Cher's death dealing with final arrangements, handling the estate, and ensuring that Cher is now resting with her mother in the prayer garden at Ascension Lutheran Church in Sarasota, Florida.
Memorials can be sent to Ascension Lutheran Church in Sarasota, Florida or to Christ Lutheran Church in Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin.
