IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dana Kathryn
Nelson
December 16, 1960 – January 16, 2026
Dana Kathryn (Dunham) Nelson, age 65, passed away on January 16, 2026, in Appleton, WI. She was born on December 16, 1960, in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, to parents, Dale and Anne (Nelson) Dunham.
After high school, she went on to further her education by studying computer technology. Dana was able to open her own computer technology Software USA Store in Charlotte, MI. She was blessed with a son in her first marriage to Blake Hillard then later, a daughter in her 2nd marriage to Tom Nelson which turned into a lifelong friendship until his recent passing in September of 2025. They vowed to make sure their child always had a place to go if she needed and they continued to live together over the years.
In her free time, she enjoyed cake decorating, playing computer and solitaire games and spending time with her family. She loved to cook in the kitchen- her happy place. Later in life, she worked in a restaurant kitchen and waitressed. She will be remembered for being a loving, independent woman, yet always just a call away Mom and everyone’s best friend.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Mares and her children, Marcus and Lucas; son, Bradley and wife Bailey Hillard and their children, Corey, Elliana and Donovan; brothers, Pat Dunham and Scott Dunham; several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Dale and Anne; the father of her children and former best friend, Tom Nelson.
Per her wishes, no formal services will be held.
