Obituary

Darrel K. Kortbein Sr. was born in Oshkosh on November 25, 1950. He was the first child of Raymond O. Kortbein and Clara F. (Neyhard) Kempf. Darrel lived in Oshkosh his entire life. He met and later married the love of his life, Dawn I. Wegner on April 18, 1970. Together they celebrated 47 years of marriage. Darrel was a US Army Veteran. He was stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky and served with the 3rd Armored Division Co. D 2nd BN 1st BG. He was a military buff. He was a welder by trade, a big jokester, very kind hearted, and a "man of his word" who enjoyed cooking, model railroading, spending endless hours with his son and grandchildren building Legos and going to the "Tuesday Matinees." He was a scale model enthusiast who built model railroads as well for fun. He loved to show them to all who were interested. Darrel also enjoyed hosting cookouts and get togethers at his home with family and friends. Darrel is survived by his loving wife: Dawn, his children: Lisa (special friend Jim Oelke) Kortbein, Cary (Michael) Nekoli, Darrel (special friend Julie Schuh) Kortbein Jr., his grandchildren: Nathan, Nyokah, Nokomis, Dominick, his siblings: Sharon (Stuart) Greenebaum, Doug (Jackie) Kortbein, Vicki (Dick) Rousar, Denise (Guy) Nau, John (Mary Kay) Kempf, Lori (Scott) Bahr, Raymond (Sherri) Kortbein, Don ( Cheryl) Magnuson, his sister-in-law: Becky Kortbein, his step-father: John, his step-siblings: Debbie, Steve, and Carla, as well as other brothers and sisters-in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews, and other family members and dear friends. Darrel is also survived by "Daddy's girl" Molly Jean, who misses Darrel very much. Darrel is preceded in death by his parents: Raymond Kortbein and Clara Kempf, his brother: Brian Kortbein, his grandson: Otto Kortbein, his mother and father-in-law June and Richard Wegner, his brother-in-law: Gib, his sister-in-law Julie, and his step-mother Gloria and his step-sister Wanda. Darrel's family would like to send a special thank you to Fresenius Kidney Care of Oshkosh for the care and concern they have given to Darrel throughout his treatments. A Memorial Service for Darrel will take place on Friday May 5, 2017 at 12:00 PM at Fox Cities Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A time of visitation will take place on Friday May 5, 2017 between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM, before the Memorial Service at the Funeral Home.And this one's for you, Papa.
