Darrell A. "Goober" Rankin, age 56, of Oshkosh, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Monday, June 11, 2018, at Aurora Medical Center. He was born on January 13, 1962, the son of Donald "Dude" and Darlene (Opperman) Rankin, and was raised with pride in Omro.
He loved his sports, especially the Packers and Badgers. His boys, Bailey, Charlie, and Peanut, held a special place in his heart. Darrell held two jobs ever in his life, Miles Kimble and Bemis, being a very dedicated and loyal employee. He was always happiest when he was grilling, no matter the time of the year. Darrell was known for having different cars (odd colors) and always having his door open to those in need.
He leaves behind many loved ones and relatives, his daughters, Sarah (Kyli) Rankin and Emily (Michael) Rankin; his grandson, John Alan; his longtime girlfriend and partner, Kelly K. Benson; his brother, James (Stacy) Rankin; his sisters, Roxanne (Tony) Kolodzik and Doreen Rankin; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and a brother, John Rankin.
A special thank you to Dave Mrstik for his vigilant efforts to bring the class of 1981 to Darrell – he loved every visit by all. Also thank you to the hospice team, Aurora at Home Hospice, especially Stacy, Kim, Jessica, Jennifer, and Bob.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, June 22, 2018, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Fox Cities Cremation Service, 3026 Jackson St., Oshkosh.
