Obituary
Darryl "Skip" LaVerne Schmidt, age 84, passed away on October 10, 2024 in Oshkosh, WI. He was born to Elizabeth J. Moon and LaVerne D. Darling in Oshkosh.
Darryl graduated from Oshkosh High School and went on to serve in the U.S. NAVY and after attended Fox Valley Tech Driving School. He later married the love of his life, Loretta Arndt at St. Andrew Lutheran church on April 30, 1994. He worked as an over the road truck driver for Neenah Foundry.
Darryl was the official photographer and historian for the American Legion post 234, a member of the DAV, 40 and 8 and Winnebago County Honor Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta J. Schmidt; children, David Schmidt, Kim Cruz, Brian (Kristin) Schmidt, Carin Dake, Christine (David) Kamine, Lance Schmidt, Holly Schmidt and Emily Schmidt; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Darryl is preceded in death by father; LaVerne Darling (KIA – WWII), Elizabeth J. Wilson (Moon); grandparents, aunts and uncles; granddaughter, Jamie.
Services will be held at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 1100 Murdock Ave. Oshkosh, WI on Friday, October 18, with visitation from 1pm to 3pm, services and military honors to follow at 3pm.
Per Darryl's request, casual attire is preferred for those attending the service.
Memorials may be made in honor of Darryl to a charity of your choice or a Veterans Support charity.
Special thank you to Dr. Schermer, nurses and the staff at the Aurora ICU, the American Red Cross, the Honor Guard as well as the American Legion Post 234.
