Obituary

David was born on May 17, 1958, in Richmond, VA and passed away on May 3, 2026, in Neenah, WI.
David grew up in Lake Mills, WI.
He lived a life marked by curiosity, resilience, gratitude, and a deep appreciation for the world around him. He had a passionate pursuit of learning and greatly enjoyed taking college classes, reading, and keeping up with current events. He especially loved thoughtful conversations and sharing his knowledge in the subjects that interested him most.
David treasured traveling and often spoke fondly of his years living in California and Alaska, places that held many meaningful memories for him.
He proudly completed boot camp in the United States Marine Corps, carrying that determination and strength throughout his life.
Music and fine art brought David great joy, He also found happiness in landscaping projects, where creating a beautiful flower bed gave him peace and satisfaction.
Throughout many health challenges, David remained deeply grateful for what he often called each “bonus day” God blessed him with. His appreciation for life, learning, beauty, music, art, and meaningful conversation left a lasting impression on those who knew and loved him.
David will be remembered for his thoughtful mind, enduring spirit, and grateful heart.
David is survived by two brothers, Dennis Cooney of Lake Mills, WI and Daniel Cooney of Gilbert, AZ; and one sister, Diane (Kent) Kisow of Sheboygan, WI; and their four sons, Ryan Kisow of Sheboygan, WI, Joshua (Monica) Kisow of Littleton, CO, Samuel Kisow of De Pere, WI, and Benjamin Kisow of Madison, WI.
He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
Preceding David in death are his parents, Edwin Cooney, Carole Koerner; and infant niece, Abbi Carolyn Kisow.
A private memorial service will be held.
