Dawn C. Hinds, age 50, of Oshkosh, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017, unexpectedly at her home. Born in Ripon, Wisconsin, November 23, 1966, she was the daughter of Donald and Mary Hinds of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. Being the first grandchild on both side of the family and the first Hinds girl in 80 years, made her quite a little star. Before coming to live in Oshkosh at the age of five, she had also lived in Madison, Wisconsin, and Hibbing, Minnesota, with her parents. A graduate of Oshkosh West High School in 1985 and attended University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Dawn was intelligent, creative, and had a talent and love of music, being active in band and was a solo keyboardist for the Jazz Band. She excelled in drama, writing plays and music. Dawn completed the driving course at Sun Prairie Truck Driving School and went on to drive the big rigs, even through downtown San Francisco during the earthquakes. Survivors include her loving companion, James DeLap; her son, Dean Donald James Hinds; her granddaughter, Peyton Bella-rey Steele, all of Oshkosh; her parents; her sister, Darcie Hinds of Appleton; her brother, Dustin Hinds of Allenville; an aunt and uncle, Priscilla and Daniel Yohann of Fond du Lac; cousins, Aaron (Jena) Yohann of Sun Prairie and Corrine (Mike) Bundy of West Salem, Wisconsin, and their children, Mason and Mia Yohann, and Maebrie Bundy; and a number of distant cousins. Preceding Dawn in death are her paternal grandparents, Dean and Mary Hinds; her great-grandmother, Jane Stearns; maternal grandparents, James and Bernice Hatch; many great-aunts and great-uncles from the Hinds, Hatch, Stearns, and Wegner families. A private service for immediate family will be held.
