Obituary
About 2 years ago, Dennis was diagnosed with aortic stenosis. Long story short, surgery would not be possible without major risks. We decided to forego the surgery and ride it out. That ride came to an end 12/27/2024.
In June, Dennis was placed on Hospice with a life expectancy of about 6 months. When he retired from the Air Force, he wasn't expected to make it past 70, so he had 12 extra years.
A Celebration of Life was held September 7 so Dennis could visit with family and friends.
Dennis Lyle Leatherman 82 died at home, peacefully, on December 27.
He was the first of 4 sons born to Lyle & Margaret Leatherman. In 1961 he joined the Air Force, serving his country for 28 years. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. When he returned to the Fox Valley he went line dancing, met, and married his wife, Karlene. For 20+ years, they taught line and square dancing throughout Wisconsin. It was line dancing that took them to the Oshkosh Saturday Farmers Market where they entertained for 4 years, and ultimately took over the market as managers. They moved the market in 2011 to its current location on Main Street and continued managing for 8 years. Five of those years were as volunteers. Dennis' health encouraged their retirement from the market in 2018.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; and special pets Rudy, Maggie and Max.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Karlene of 34 years; brothers, David (Faye), Tom (Cheryl) and Phil (Brenda); children, Russell, Michael (Heather) and Amanda (Brian); daughter-in-law, Debrah; grandchildren, Devin, Mackenzie, Morgan, Hunter, Ava, Eddie, Carmen and Talia; great-granddaughter, Keira; and pets, Winnie, Bullet and Lulu.
