Dennis Williams was born on December 16, 1932, in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Odie and Inez Williams who preceded him in death. He was the eldest child of thirteen, six sisters and seven brothers. Three siblings preceded him in death, Betty Jean, Otis and Bobby Lee Williams.
Dennis met Martha Freeman and moved to Chicago in 1958. To this union, six children were born; three who preceded him in death, Martin Freeman, Bonnie Shaw and Anthony Williams.
Dennis was a member of the Divine Temple Holiness Church. He was baptized under the leadership of the late Sadie D. Ware.
Dennis was a custodian and everywhere he resided he kept the area clean, would do the repairs and made sure the trash was dumped.
Dennis was a fan of children. He would babysit for any and everybody. Dennis has raised so many children everywhere he went somebody was calling Uncle Dennis granddad.
He was a good provider to his family. Uncle Dennis was a fun person to be around. He kept you laughing.
Uncle Dennis was someone that you could count on no matter what the situation was he would tell you that you were always welcome into his home. Uncle would make room for you and your family even if you had to sleep on a pallet on the floor. Uncle made you feel comfortable and in the morning “unk” would have that house smelling with those salmon croquette, bologna, sausage, biscuit, eggs and rice. Uncle Dennis would start cooking dinner right away, he made the best collard greens and pinto beans with cornbread. Uncle made sure you would be full when you left his home.
Uncle Dennis loved his Blues and Dusties. Every Friday we would be at Uncle Dennis and Aunt Martha’s house partying listening to “Bobby Blue Bland” and “B.B. King” playing cards, po-keno, shooting dice, drinking crown royal, his favorite and having fun. It was never a dull moment with Uncle Dennis and Aunt Martha.
Uncle Dennis departed his life on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Aurora Hospital in Oshkosh, WI. His wife, Martha Williams, parents, Odie and Inez Williams, two brothers, Otis and Bobby Lee Williams; sister, Betty Jean Williams; two sisters-in-law, Odessie Blunt and Dorothy Williamson; two brothers-in-law, J.C. Davis and Willie Blunt; eight grandchildren, Martin Jr, Lacola, Abraham, Anthony, Markeece, Denise Williams, Vincent and Derrick Nash. All preceded him in death. Uncle Dennis will be deeply missed.
He leaves to cherish his memories, two daughters, Nancy Williams of St. Paul, Minnesota and Annette Williams; son, Dennis (Anna) Williams Jr. of Sheboygan, WI; four brothers, Cleveland, Leroy, Carl (Mary), Charles (Joyce); five sisters, Katherine Austin, Roena Arnold, Alberta Jones, Nancy Williams and Vera Blayde all of Memphis, TN; three sisters-in-law, Mary Davis of Burbank, IL, 25 grandkids, 78 great-grandkids, and 28 great-great-grandkids; one daughter-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends as well as a special son, Abraham Reeves Jr and a favorite niece, Nettie.

My Granddad
As I sit by your bedside watching you make your transition, I didn’t know what to do knowing you will be with God in a better position, my eyes filling up with fear. Knowing I was there wondering what I could do, so I just tried to breathe for you. Lovingly looking at you and wiping your face realizing that you are in a better place.
