Obituary

Elaine E. Smith, age 82 of Oshkosh, passed away Monday December 29, 2008 at her home. Elaine was born in Menasha, WI on September 25, 1926 the daughter of William and Laura (Edwards) Martin. The family moved to Wautoma in 1936 and Elaine graduated from Wautoma High School in 1945. At the Lohrville skating rink she met Dwight W. Smith Jr. and they were married on January 13, 1951 at the Methodist Church in Neshkoro. After marrying Dwight, they lived in Milwaukee until 1969, then moved to Springfield, Illinois until Dwight's death in 1984, and then she finally settled in Oshkosh. Elaine worked for the Redgranite Pickle Factory, Baraboo Ammunition Plant, and Pinky's A & W in Wautoma. Her hobbies included playing cards, crossword puzzles and reading Westerns. She is survived by one son; Rodney (Sheila) Smith of Davenport, Florida, one daughter; Robin Banker-Keepers of Oshkosh, grandchildren; Lee and Owen Smith of Green Bay, Matthew Zirtzman of Ft.Stewart, GA, Etta (Smith) Delair (Josh) of Green Bay, Aaron and Ashley Banker of Oshkosh, five great-grandchildren; Elizabeth Smith, Brianna and Hunter Zirtzman, and Ian and Ethan Delair, one sister; Cheryl (Martin) Pica of Berlin, two brothers; Wayne (Diane) Martin of Las Vegas and Richard (Myrna) Martin of Oshkosh, three sisters-in law; Shirley Patzwald, Beth (Forrest) Wilcox, Marlys Crites, one brother-in-law; Robert (Sue) Smith, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, especially special friends Peggy Robinson, Sheena, Allison, Nic, and Pete. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dwight W. Smith Jr., three brothers; Harvey, Calvin and Harold Martin, and one sister Arline Gaylord. A Memorial Service will be held Friday January 2, 2009 at Robin and Pete's home (1927 Michigan St.) at 2:00 pm with Chaplain Dan Edwards officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Affinity Hospice. A special thanks to all the nurses and staff of Affinity Hospice for all the wonderful care and compassion that was given to the family.
