Obituary

Frances Josephine Josh, died peacefully in her home under the loving care of her family on January 2, 2007 at the age of 98. Frances, the youngest daughter of Frank and Mary (Pinc) Polivka, was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 8, 1908.

She received a secretarial degree from a Chicago business college and worked as the executive secretary for the vice-president of Western Electric. It was there that she met the love of her life, George Josh, who she subsequently married in May of 1932 after he finished his degree at the University of Illinois. George was employed as a microbiologist at Armour and Company at the Union Stock Yards in Chicago, Illinois and commuted from their home in Crown Point,Indiana until his untimely death in 1964.

Frances became the leader of the local 4-H Club and eventually became the 4-H agent for Lake County, Indiana. Upon retirement, Frances served as a volunteer at St. Anthony Hospital and coordinated the Red Cross blood drive program. She relocated to Oshkosh in 1983, leaving the family home and memories behind. Frances became active in the lives of three of her grandchildren and The First Presbyterian Church in Oshkosh. She spent her free time volunteering at the local food pantry, making quilts for "the elderly," baking wonderful pies, cooking, reading, traveling with her friends, and gardening. Her quality of life and positive attitude was exceptional and an inspiration to all who knew her.

Frances is survived by her two daughters, Rosemary Josh Furkin of Otterbein, Indiana and Celia Josh-Sawicki of Oshkosh and their children, John Furkin of Royal Oak, MI, Elizabeth Sawicki, of Glendale, WI, Gregory Sawicki, of Oshkosh, and Eric (Tonia Habeck) Sawicki of Oshkosh. Her other siblings who preceded her in death were Bessie Krizinecky, Elsie Dedic, James Polivka, and Edward Polivka.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Frances' life will take place on Saturday, January 20, 2007, at 3:00 P.M., at The First Presbyterian Church (110 Church Avenue Oshkosh). Visitation will be on Saturday at the church from 1:00 P.M. until time of services, with refreshments to follow. Frances will be laid to rest with her husband on Mother's Day weekend in Crown Point, Indiana.
