Francis Allen Martin, age 94, of Oshkosh, WI, passed away on April 16, 2011 at Cherry Meadows Hospice, Appleton, WI. Fran was born November 11, 1916 in Adams, MA, the son of Dorothy (Button) and Francis A. Martin. He graduated from Drury High School, class of 1935, in North Adams, MA. He spent many years in East Lansing, MI and Palm Harbor, FL finally settling in Oshkosh, WI. He served in the US Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946, stationed in the South Pacific, Saipan and Guam, completing his tour of duty in Hawaii. He was employed by the B&A Railroad, General Electric, Olin Mills, subsequently retiring from WFMK radio in 1977 where he was co-owner. Fran enjoyed everything to do with the Civil War, including visiting Civil War battlefields. He also never passed up an opportunity to go out to eat.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy (Button) Baulkwill, his stepfather, Charles Baulkwill and his father Francis A. Martin.
His is survived by his wife, Rosemary (Richter) Martin, his daughters, Candace (Paul) Shellabarger, Lima, OH, Frances (David) Sowders, Haslett, MI, Teresa (Jeff) Hunt, Williamsburg, MI, Linda (Dave) Leathers, Grand Ledge, MI, his step children, Vickie Doxtator, Oneida, WI, Julie (Joe) Brady, Oshkosh, WI, Linda (Keith) Wensel, Omro, WI, Jim (Therese) Hering, Arlington, WA, his 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 pm Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 311 Division St., Oshkosh, WI. Burial will follow at Lake View Mausoleum and Memorial Park, Oshkosh, WI. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 pm Wednesday at the church.
The family would like to express special thanks to the ThedaCare at Home staff for the wonderful care they provided.
In lieu of flowers a memorial will be set up in his name.
