Garland A. Hyler


Garland A. Hyler, age 69, of Oshkosh, passed away Wednesday evening, August 30, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center. He was born in Clifton Forge Virginia, on April 24, 1937, the son of the late John and Thelma (Dawson) Hyler. On November 12, 1960, Garland married Charlotte Koivu in Wakefield Michigan. Garland was employed at Georgia Pacific for thirty plus years, as a taper operator until his retirement. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, and assisted in the transporting of the Redstone Missile, while assigned to the 209th Artillery. Garland enjoyed fishing, bird hunting, riding his lawnmower, traveling, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his grandkids up at the cabin in Bergland, Michigan. Survivors include; his wife of forty five years, Charlotte Hyler, three sons, Scott, Todd (Terri), and Bob, all of Oshkosh, two grandchildren, David and Dylan, one brother, Leo Chantelois, Oshkosh, one sister in law, Judy Koivu, New York City, four stepbrothers, Jack (Janice), Thomas (Mary), Bill (Wilma) Hyler, all of Milton Florida, John (Trish) Hyler, Chattanooga Tennessee, special friends, Cookie Schneider and Tony (Lorraine)Golla, all of Oshkosh, and Don (Joellyn) Pezzetti,Wakefield Michigan, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather Leo Ray Chantelois, and one stepbrother Jimmy Hyler. A Memorial Service for Garland will be held on Friday, September 8, 2006, at 12:00pm, at Fox Cities Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Rosenberg officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, at the funeral home, from 10:00 am, until the hour of services. Final Memorial Services for Garland will be held on Friday, September 15, 2006, at 1:00pm, at the family cabin in Bergland Michigan, with the Rev. Joyce Heintz officiating, with full military honor guard to follow (VFW Post 9084). In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Garland's name. The family would like to thank all the staff at Mercy Medical Center's emergency room, ICU unit, and Chaplain Bill DeWitt for their wonderful care and compassion that was given to Garland and his family.
