Gary W. Schley, age 70, Chilton, passed away on February 12th, 2011. He was born on April 19, 1940, in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, to Ormie and Esther (Adams) Schley. Gary married Claire Steffes on October 12, 1957. He worked as a Machinist at Ameriquip in New Holstein, and retired in 2005, after 40 years of service. Gary was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church in Chilton.
Gary was an avid fisherman and made numerous trips to Canada with his family and friends to fish for Northern Pike and Walleye in the lakes of Ontario. He enjoyed playing a friendly game of poker or Sheepshead with family and friends as well as visiting casinos with his wife. Another of Gary's passions was making
maple syrup with long-time friends Lloyd Broker and Alfred (Fritz) Steffes. He enjoyed working with wood, building numerous birdhouses and furniture for his family over the years.
Gary will be deeply missed and is survived by his wife of 53 years, Claire (Steffes); a brother, Clayton (Nancy) Schley of Redding, CA; two daughters, Kim Daniel of Appleton, Gena Schley and son-in-law, Rex Shipley of Chilton; a son and daughter-in-Law, Eric (Debra) Schley of Hurst, TX; three grandchildren, Clinton Schley, Samantha Schley, and Griffin Daniel; an aunt, Esther Rasmussen of Manitowoc, WI; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Donna and Joe Vollmer, New Holstein; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Ormie Schley; mother, Esther (Adams) Newman; and three uncles, Orville Rasmusssen, Alphon Schley, and Robert Schley.
In accordance with Gary's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. He
will be cremated and laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery in Chilton, WI, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Gary's name at Fox Cities Funeral and Cremation Services in Oshkosh, WI.
The family would like to thank Faye Wollersheim and the staff of Calumet County Hospice for the compassionate care and support during Gary's final struggle with cancer. The family would also like to thank everyone for their kindness and
prayers.
