George Michael Baer, 79, passed away on June 17, 2026. He was born in Appleton, WI, on January 28, 1947, to parents Albert and Donna (Gallie) Baer.
George graduated from Appleton High School in 1965 and played in a rock band called- The Memories. After graduating he served in the United States Navy as a Corpsman with the 5th Marine Division, serving during the Vietnam war. George married Jean Schanke on April 18, 1970, and together they raised three children.
He enjoyed being outdoors and spending time staying active; riding his bike with his wife, Jean, and ran a marathon and several half marathons, as well as coaching basketball with his daughter, and baseball with his sons and fishing up by the cabin. He was also always ready with a well placed dad joke, whether you wanted it or not.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean Baer; children, Jason (Kristin) Baer, Aaron (Allie) Baer and Kimberly (David) Baer; grandchildren, Riley (Kayla) Van Straten; Mina Manchester-Baer, Olivia Baer, George Baer, August Baer and Dorothy Baer; and brother, Denny (Jean) Baer. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
Preceding George are his parents, Donna and Albert; and his brothers, Albert Baer, Tom Baer and infant John Baer.
A celebration of life will be held at Menominee Park in Oshkosh at Pavilion #1 on Monday, June 29th from 3:30pm to 6pm.
