Obituary

Harold J. "Ripper" Schertz age 88 of Oshkosh, passed away August 14, 2011 at Bella Vista Manor. He was born on April 24, 1923 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin the son of Gottleib and Elizabeth (Troiber) Schertz. Harold was married to Betty Stahle on October 16, 1946 at Sacred Heart Church in Oshkosh. She preceded him in death on October 30, 1994. On December 6, 1998, he was married to Lorraine Auler. Harold was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Church.

Harold served in the U. S. Navy Coast Guard from 1943 to 1946 as a ship's cook third class and as a baker on the USS Machias. He was awarded two Bronze Battle Stars for his service. His employment included Leach Company and then Sacred Heart Parish School for over thirty years until his retirement in 1985. A Papal Blessing was given to him for his years of service at Sacred Heart. In his retirement, he continued to work part time for his sons, Tom and Dave at TNT Tap. He loved family, cards, fishing, hunting, dart ball traveling and watching the Chicago Cubs play ball.

Harold is survived by his three sons, all of Oshkosh, Michael (Kay) Schertz, Thomas (Sue) Schertz and David Schertz. Grandchildren; Andrew (Kim) Schertz, Nicolas (Robyn) Schertz, Jacob (Sandi) Schertz, Matthew (Brenda) Schertz, and Adam Schertz. Great-grandchildren-Ben, AJ, Abby, Layne, Casey, Riley, Wyatt, Leah, and Mason. Sister; Ruth Walter, brothers in law Leroy (Patsy) Stahle, and Douglas Stahle. Sisters in laws Ruth Wolf, Jean Leonard and Elsie Sphatt. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Betty.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Jude the Apostle Church ( St. Vincent site) at 1225 Oregon St. on Thursday August 18, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

The family would like to thank Dr. Matt Fisher and Dr Albator, the Aurora Medical Staff, Heartland Hospice and the staff at Bella Vista Manor for all their care and compassion.
