Harold R. Stang, 91, of Oshkosh, passed away at his home on Saturday, August 27, 2016. Harold was born in Oshkosh on February 26, 1925, to George and Esther (Potratz) Stang. He served his country in the US Army in Europe during WWII, and earned a Bronze Star for his bravery in battle. Upon returning, he married Ruth Edminster. He spent his working career in management at Paine Lumber Company. In his spare time, he was a scratch golfer and an avid fisherman. He built his own home for his family and a cottage up north. He was an avid reader, and took great interest in history, particularly the Civil War; and enjoyed going to visit the battlefields. His family, especially his grandchildren were of upmost importance to him. He especially loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports.Harold is survived by his children, Barbara Hopkins of Mt. Horeb, Jeffrey (Sandra) Stang of Florida and Wisconsin, Rebecca (Randal) Wade of Clintonville and Arizona; his seven grandchildren, Aaron (Emily) Hopkins, Adam Hopkins, Ryan (Laura) Stang, Casey (Mandy) Stang, Peter (Amy) Wade, Ian (Amie) Wade, Leigh (Paul) Walske; 14 great grandchildren, Lily and Oliver Hopkins, Wyndsor, Tripton, Oliver and Benjamin Stang, Ashlyn and Alaina Stang, Isaiah and Elijah Wade, Makena Wade, Paige, Claire and Kate Walske; and his brother, David Stang of Omro. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth and parents.Harold will be laid to rest in Eureka Cemetery following a private family ceremony.
