Obituary

Howard "Howie" W. Rost, age 81, passed away on April 30, 2025, with his family by his side, in Oshkosh, WI. He was born on November 19, 1943, to parents Raymond Edwin and Mildred Bernice (Leet) Rost, in Wisconsin.

After high school, he served for three years in the United States Army. While in the military, he met and married the love of his life, Waltraud Bannach on December 5, 1964, at her Church in Germany.

After his military service came to an end, he started a family and worked in German at the Audi Automobile Factory. In 1968, he packed up the family and moved back to the United States. He worked as a machinist at Medalist Mfg. of Oshkosh and at Webex in Neenah for a long time, then at Armstrong Blum, until his retirement in 2006.

Howie enjoyed camping with his family and friends. For 47 years, they frequented the same lake to enjoy fishing, hunting, grilling and making pizza on the open fire. He was also an avid Green Bay Packers football fan. In fact, he would put his rain poncho on to sneak a peak at the game while camping. He will be remembered for being funny, very sociable and firm but loving.

He is survived by his wife, Waltraud Rost; children, Sabine (James) Knapp, James Rost, and Eric (Nicole) Rost; grandchildren, Angie Ernst, Chad Ernst, Paulin Knapp, Erika Knapp, Nicolas Rost, Alexander Rost and Ava Rost. Ten great-grandchildren; siblings, Arlene (Brad) Bowen, Barb White and Jerry Rost; sister-in-law, Rita Bannach; many nieces and nephews; and several other family and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Raymond Edwin and Mildred Bernice (Leet) Rost; parents-in-law, Erich and Welburga Bannach; siblings, Patricia Rost, Richard Rost, Allen Rost, James Rost, Linda Owien, Eugene Rost and Lorraine Rost; and sister-in-law, Ericka Kolbe.

Per his wishes, a private service will be held on a future date.
