James "Jim" Allen, age 85, of Oshkosh, was called home on December 24th after a long illness. Jim was born February 18, 1939, in the Town of Maine, Outagamie Co., to William and Florence (Banker) Allen.

He attended Roosevelt School until his parents moved to Omro in 1952, where he attended Banner and Omro High Schools. Upon graduation in 1957, he entered the U.S. Air Force where he was on the fire department squad in the UK. When he returned to Omro, he worked construction for Ben Ganther until he was hired at American Motors in Kenosha.

In 1963, he married Susan Ruechel and in 1965 returned to Omro once more when he was employed by Rockwell International and worked there for 35 years. They moved to Oshkosh in 2022 when health issues no longer allowed him to be at home.

In his younger years, Jim was very athletic. He excelled at baseball, basketball and roller skating. He was known to take long bicycle rides; at times he rode 100 miles or more. He also enjoyed skiing, motorcycling, hunting and fishing. Jim and Sue loved attending and watching sports events, live and on TV. They also enjoyed traveling with their family and friends. Jim was very outgoing, kind, memorable, and funny. He made friends wherever he went. Jim is survived by Sue, his wife of 61 years; sons, Rick (Deb) of Oshkosh and Jim (Sharon) of Appleton; brothers, Gerald (Mary), Wright (Shirley) and Eugene; and sister, Florence (Jim) Haedt; brothers-in-law, Bob Eichinger and Howard Eck; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A memorial service for Jim will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 955 N Webster Ave, Omro on Saturday, January 11, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the service at 12 noon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church of Omro and the Omro Food Pantry in his honor.
