Obituary

James Joseph Owsiak, (Jim), age 60, died on Monday, March 13, 2017 at UW Hospital, Madison, WI, after a six month fight with lung cancer. Jim was born on September 5, 1956 to Mildred Owsiak and Frank Owsiak in Chicago, IL. After attending Mortain East High School in Chicago, Jim enlisted in the regular army for four years, spending one year in South Korea, and then spending an additional four years in the National Guard. He also attended Brainerd Technical College in Brainerd MN for auto body repair. Jim came to Columbus, WI in 1991 and married Kristi Peterson in 1999. Jim was employed in the construction field in many capacities. Jim worked at Tilsen Roofing in Madison, WI as a commercial roofer and sheet metal worker for 13 years. Jim was passionate about hunting, fishing, and camping. He was a true outdoorsman and was happiest sitting in a tree in the middle of the woods. He loved to work with wood in any capacity. Jim also was quite a mechanic and was always fixing something. James Owsiak is survived by his wife, Kristi A. Peterson of Columbus, WI, (Borth, WI), his sister, Pat Russo of Prairie Du Sac, WI, his brother, Joseph Owsiak of Berwyn, IL, his brothers-in-law, Grant Peterson of Oshkosh, WI, and Rolf (Sandy) Peterson of VA, and nieces and nephews, Angela Russo, Anna Jacobs, Tony Russo, and Pam and Brad Peterson. Jim is preceded in death by his father, Frank John Owsiak, his mother, Mildred (Moravec)(Owsiak) McBee, his brother Richard Frank Owsiak, and his nephew, Sam Russo. A life celebration will be held in the Borth, WI area at a later date. Memorials will be established at a later date. We want to thank the staff at UW Carbone Center and at UW Hospital for helping us through this difficult journey, Dr. Poser and his staff, and the staff at Christ Advocate Medical Center in Chicago. I want to thank all the family and friends who have supported me in this time of need, especially the congregation at Borth United Methodist Church, who prayed for us throughout this painful journey.
