Obituary

Jane Frances Westphal age 76 was welcomed into the arms of the Heavenly Father Monday July 6th 2015.Jane was born January 24th 1939 in Chicago, Illinois to Rose (nee Bemoski) andHenry Gliniecki. She grew up in Lake Zurich, Illinois and spent summers in ThreeLakes, Wisconsin where she loved to fish and read Gone with the Wind on the shoresof Big Lake. Jane attended Beloit College before marrying Walter Marty in 1959.She and Walter resided in Green Bay, Wisconsin with their three children until 1977when they moved to Oshkosh. Jane worked in many administrative roles during her twenty-year career at theUniversity of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Her favorite role was working with students atthe Graduate School in Dempsey Hall formatting thesis work. During her time atDempsey Hall she caught the eye of Career Planning and Placement AssistantDirector, Roger Westphal. They enjoyed a beautiful courtship that includedwonderful day trips, concerts, shopping for antiques, and cozy dinners sharing arueben at The Chalice. They married September 24th 1988 in the Trinity Chapel.They travelled the world and maintained, Signed and Dated, their antique resalebusiness. Jane enjoyed extensive travel and had a particular affinity for the American West,Savannah, Georgia, and the Door County Peninsula. Jane was active in the Episcopal Church since 1965, first at Christ Church indowntown Green Bay and then at Trinity of Oshkosh. She served on vestry, taughtSunday school, was active in Episcopal Church Women and was always an availableand willing volunteer. Always community minded, Jane was an active member and leader in many groupsincluding, Oshkosh Garden Club, The Winnebago County Historical andArcheological Society, The Oshkosh Samplers, and The Oshkosh LandmarksCommission. During her time with the Historical Society Jane served as President,Vice President and Interiors Chair. Among her greatest achievements was hereffectiveness in fundraising for the Society through events such as The Historic Tourof Homes and her brainchild, the wildly popular Pie on the Porch, which still goesstrong at the Oshkosh Farmers Market today. For Jane, Pie on the Porch was asmuch about a way to fund the preservation of the Morgan House, the Society's housemuseum, as it was a way to promote good will and outreach to the community.Jane proudly shared her home and gardens with the community when she wasselected for the Oshkosh Historic Tour of Homes and Oshkosh Garden Club GardenWalk. Jane and Roger earned the prestigious Acanthus Award for their preservationefforts toward their Merritt Avenue home. She also shared her home with amenagerie of beloved animals, found and adopted. Jane is survived by her daughters, Christine Augsburger, Susan (Greg) Vande Sande,and Jennifer Marty. She is further survived by her grandchildren CaitlinBusha (fiancé Christopher Yogerst) and Andrew Augsburger, her brother JerryGliniecki, her niece Tammy (Gene) Kuta, her great niece and nephew Kaylee and Kyleand dear friend Brad Spanbauer. Jane is also survived by many other cherishedfamily members and friends. Jane is preceded in death by her husband, RogerWestphal and parents Rose and Henry Gliniecki. Jane will be remembered by all who knew her as a generous, kind, elegant, funny,insightful woman. She will be remembered by her family as a daily example ofstrength and goodness. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Jane's name to benefit TheWinnebago County Historical and Archeological Society, The Oshkosh Area HumaneSociety, and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 10, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. in Trinity Episcopal Church, 311 Division Street, Oshkosh. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will be held at the church from 12 Noon until 2:00 p.m.
