Jerry L. Martin, age 78, of Nekoosa, and formerly of Oshkosh, died Thursday afternoon, June 19, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. Born on August 1, 1935, in Liberty Township, Iowa, the son of Glea and Frances (Stierwalt) Martin, Jerry married Linda Muehlenberg on October 24, 1980, in Oshkosh.
After serving his county for 21 years, 6 months, and 3 days, Jerry retired in September of 1975 as a Master Sargent with the U.S. Marine Corps. He then moved to Oshkosh where he worked as the head golf professional for several local golf courses he helped build.
Jerry was the owner of three local businesses; the last one was over 20 years with Joseph Motel south of Oshkosh. Jerry was the Captain of a charter fishing boat he owned and enjoyed hunting when he was not fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Martin of Nekoosa; three children, Laurie Martin of Oshkosh, Dmitri Martin of Waupaca, and Jacques Colbert of Oshkosh; grandchildren, Joshua, Aaron, McKenzie, Dhara, Gavin, Tessa, and Roslyn; and great-grandchildren, Mariah, Hailee, Miley, and Chase. Preceding Jerry in death are his parents; a son, Jon Martin; a sister, Georgia; and a brother, Jim.
Graveside memorial services will be held on Friday, June 27, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. in Wisconsin Veterans Home Cemetery at King, Wisconsin, where full Military Honors will be given. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be donated to Wound Warrior Project in Jerry's memory.
