With heavy hearts good byes were said to Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.

Joan May Shaffer Mathison, left us at age 86, Tuesday, January 26th, 2021. She lived in Oshkosh for the last 40 years and formerly of Fond du Lac.

Born in Joyfield Michigan, grew up in Bendon Michigan and graduated Travers City Central High School.
She married Wilbur Shaffer and had five children. Together they raised four in Fond du Lac.

She spent a very successful career of 30 years with the Wisconsin State Corrections.

Joan is preceded by Sabrina Shaffer and Carla Houle and survived by Steve Shaffer, wife Christine of Discovery Bay CA, Wally Shaffer, wife Connie of Fond du Lac and Peggy Shaffer, wife Konnie of Oshkosh.
Joan married Ralph Mathison of Oshkosh. With this marriage she has a step daughter, Marsh Van Hout, husband Kurt of Appleton. Joan and Ralph enjoyed traveling around the U.S. in their motor home and met and made many new friends.

Joan enjoyed her days with her kitty "Binx", Cross Country skiing, biking and kayaking. She enjoyed crossing Lake Michigan on the SS Badger to her childhood home and visiting with family. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren that were located around the U.S.

The family would like to extend our gratitude to her dear friend Rose Rennert and the wonderful people in our final days from Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, she would appreciate donations to be made to the Oshkosh area Humane Society in memory of Joan Shaffer-Mathison.
