Joan C. Smith, age 81, of Oshkosh, died peacefully Sunday morning December 10, 2006, at Evergreen Retirement Community. She was born in Grand Rapids Michigan on September 28, 1925, the daughter of Edwin and Ethel (Contache) Behrend. Joan married William A. Smith on November 28, 1942, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. She worked as a Medical Recorder at Mercy Medical Center, volunteered for many years for the American Red Cross Blood Drives, the Oshkosh YMCA, was a very good cook, and will be sadly missed by all that knew her. Joan is survived by her husband of 64 years, William A. Smith, of Oshkosh, sons, Dennis Smith, of Oshkosh, and Michael (Kathleen) Smith, of Rhinelander, grandchildren, Wendy (Dan Thurston) Smith, Tara (Dustin) Litzke, Holly (Jason) Larch, great-grandchildren, Alexander, Hope, Tyler, and Haile, one brother, William (Joey) Behrend, special friends, Alma Fitzpatrick and her daughter, Missy Correll, who both helped and cared for Joan and William, other relatives and friends. Funeral Services for Joan will be held on Friday, December 15, 2006, at 12:00 P.M., at Fox Cities Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:30 A.M. until time of services on Friday. The family would like to thank Aurora Hospice for their gentle and loving care and Evergreen Manor and staff for all their help, guidance, concern and love.
