Obituary

Julia Lena Morgan, 85, formerly of 819 Kaufmann Avenue, Dubuque, Iowa, passed away peacefully at Evergreen Retirement Community in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on August 23, 2012.
Julia (Hanselmann) Morgan was born on July 5, 1927 in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Frederick W. and Julie (Kintzinger) Hanselmann. She attended Dubuque Senior High and the former Bayless Business College. Before she married, Julia was employed at the former Dubuque Savings and Loan Association.
On November 11, 1956, she was married to Harold J. Morgan at St. John's Lutheran Church in Dubuque. Harold died on July 6, 1993.
Julia was active in Girl Scouts and the Fulton Elementary School's PTA. Of her many creative projects, she was best known for her intricate Ukrainian egg designs. She was a fabulous cook of authentic German food and renowned for her beautifully decorated cakes. She adopted her mother's great love for collecting and caring for African Violets.
Julia was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Dubuque, where she enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher, a member of the church choir and serving on the church council. Later, she was an active member of St. Paul's, Lutheran Church. For a time before relocating to Oshkosh, she attended The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Dubuque.
Surviving are three beloved daughters, Cynthia M. Morgan of Chicago, Illinois, Rebecca M. Morgan-Meckelberg (Deborah) of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and Pauline L. Morgan of Dubuque, Iowa, along with her cherished grandchildren, Sarah (Foley) Miller, Isaac and Elizabeth Morgan-Meckelberg, Jenne Morgan and Andrea, Emmanuel and Michael Fountain, and her many great-grandchildren, including her treasured namesake, Julian Jeremiah Morgan. Julia is also survived by sisters Gertrude Klinge, Elsbeth Williams, Gerda (Eugene) Chappell, her brother Roger (Sue) Hanselmann, sisters-in-law, Anne Hanselmann, Ethel (Morgan) Storm, Kwon (Paul) Morgan, Betty (Kenneth) Morgan, Eunice (Carl) Morgan, brothers-in-law, Robert Cartigny, her cherished goddaughter, Miriam (Chappell) Hoffman, and many nieces and nephews.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold, sisters Irma L. Cartigny, Fredericka "Frieda" M. Rudolph, brothers Herbert, Ralph, Frederick, Karl, her fraternal twin brother Hans, sister-in-law, Margaret Morgan, brothers-in-law George Klinge, Leonard Rudolph, Waldamar Storm, Paul and Carl Morgan, infant grandson, Caleb John Morgan-Meckelberg, and her god parents, Laura Rapp and Bill Bock, who each played an important role in her life, and her dear companions, Catherine Giron and Dr. Joan Luce.
Heartfelt thanks go to the wonderful administrators, staff, nurses, and aides at Sunnycrest Manor, Dubuque, Iowa, and Evergreen Retirement Community, Oshkosh, Wisconsin for their loving care, with special appreciation to Kathy Wlochal, RN, Christine Richter, CNA, Toni Rodensal, RN and Kurt Julian, CNA, for their tender attention.
Cremation was arranged through Fox Cities Funeral & Cremation Services, 3026 Jackson St. Oshkosh, Wisconsin. There was a memorial service at Evergreen Retirement Community on Saturday, August 25, 2012. A private family graveside service will take place at St. John's Cemetery in Dubuque, Iowa on November 9, 2012.
