Karen R. McGovern, age 73, of Oshkosh, passed away after a long illness on Monday, April 11, 2016. She was born in Wisconsin Rapids on August 3, 1942 the daughter of the late Clarence and Margaret (Halverson) Olson. The family moved to Black River Falls in 1945 where she resided until 1977 when she moved with her three children to Oshkosh. Karen was employed by the UW-Oshkosh Head Start Program for 25 years in a clerical position. Karen is survived by her sons: Mike (Beth) Olson of Oshkosh, Kathryn (Ed) Lear of Knob Noster, MO and Mark (Jill) McGovern of Neenah; grandsons: Alan McGovern of Oshkosh and Justin House of Knob Noster; step-grandchildren: Russell (Shawna) Huebner of Lacey, WA, Anna Huebner of Oshkosh, Nathan Huebner of Amarillo, TX, and Ian Huebner of Oshkosh; great-grandchildren: Mya, Autumn, Summer and Bryson; step-greatgrandchildren: Wesley Huebner, Lena Huebner, Toby Huebner and Riley Huebner; sisters: Barb (Carl) Knudsen and Margaret Evan; and brother-in-law, Jack Staege. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Clarence Olson, James Olson and Richard (Gerda) Olson; sisters: Dorothy Staege and Verna (Bob) Small; brother-in-law, Neil Evans; and many nieces and nephews. Burial of Karen's cremated remains will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Merrillan, WI at a later time.
