On the morning of January 6, 2016, Linda Ann Briese passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by family, following a courageous three-year battle with cancer. Linda was born in Oshkosh on November 25, 1950, the daughter of Robert and Phyllis (Kotowski) Shea. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1972. On February 3, 1973, Linda married Jeffrey Briese. Family was very important to Linda. She was a stay-at-home mom. She worked diligently with her husband on their dairy farm. For many years, Linda served as a 4-H leader, not only for her own children but for other youths in the program. She also contributed a lot of time to the Winnebago County Fair, and was a member of the Winnebago Farm Bureau. Once her children were fully grown, Linda worked full-time at Shopko until the time of her illness. In recent years, Linda was very instrumental in developing a thriving produce market on the family farm. She enjoyed gardening, planting, and harvesting pumpkins and other vegetables with the help of her children and grandchildren. Linda loved spending time with her grandchildren. They were a big bright spot in her life. She also enjoyed traveling with family and friends. One of her favorite enjoyments in life was going with her husband and friends on their annual fishing trips. In the summer of 2013, Linda fulfilled a life-long dream by visiting Ireland, the land of her ancestors. Survivors include her husband, Jeffrey Briese; their children, Tennelle (Marc) Davis, Missy (Nick) Malinowski, and James Briese; grandchildren, Jacob Davis, Zachary Davis, Kylie Davis, Olivia Malinowski, and another grandchild due in June; her mother, Phyllis Shea; siblings, Ellen (Thomas) Lloyd, Robert (Sue) Shea, and Sue (Jeff) Houle; brothers-in-law, Kevin (Cheryl) Messerschmidt, Bob (Lynne) Messerschmidt, and Todd (fiancée, Melissa Engstrom) Messerschmidt; a sister-in-law, Amy (Drea) Bruss; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Preceding Linda in death is her father, Robert Shea, and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Betty and Clark Messerschmidt. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pickett (Hwy 44 and County Road M) with Pastor Jud Krohn officiating. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will be held on Friday, January 8, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. A special thank you to all who helped Linda and her family during this time, especially, Pastor Jud for his daily visits, Dr. Devermann, the medical staff at Lombardi Cancer Center, the doctors and nurses at Aurora Medical Center, and Affinity Hospice. Your kindness was very much appreciated.
