Lonnie "Pete" G. Hershberger, age 73, of Oshkosh, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016. He was born in Albia, IA on May 5, 1943 the son of the late Donald and Freda (Stocker) Hershberger. On September 17, 1966 he married Carol Anklam at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oshkosh. She preceded him in death in 2013. On February 28, 2016 he married Carla Gearnhardt. Lonnie was proud to serve in the Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. He worked at Universal Foundry in Oshkosh and retired from Berlin Chapman Foundry in Berlin. Lonnie enjoyed hunting and fishing, model trains, and spending time with friends. He will be remembered for his military service, and for being a wonderful family man. Lonnie is survived by his wife Carla and her family; children: Deb (Kirk) Garb of Chippewa Falls, Dan (partner, Russell Beier) Hershberger of Reedsburg, Julie (Cory) Stellmacher of Oshkosh, Jon Hershberger of Oshkosh, Jennifer (Joe) Geer of Oshkosh, Kimberly Hershberger of Oshkosh and Mike (fiancée, Ashley Theabo) Hershberger of Oshkosh; 18 grandchildren; one great- granddaughter; brothers and sisters: Lee (Diane) Hershberger, Maxine (Tom) Mertens, Tom Hershberger and Jane (Dale) Schaumberg; sisters-in-law: Kathy Hershberger and Linda Hershberger; and brother-in-law, James (Peggy) Anklam. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; brothers, Larry and Donald Hershberger. The memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at the funeral home. Friends will be received on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. The family extends a special thank you to the Department of Veterans Affairs, Aurora Medical Center of Oshkosh, and Bella Vista of Oshkosh for their wonderful care.
