Marilyn "Marty" Tillman, went to join the Lord, her husband Frank and her son David, at the age of 90 on Sept. 20
th
, 2024. Marilyn passed peacefully at her home in Neenah, WI, surrounded by her loving family.
Hailing from La Crosse WI., Marilyn was born Dec. 11
th
, 1933, to George and Virginia Wolff. Tragically, Marilyn lost her mother to an illness just 2 weeks after she was born. While grieving daily for the loss of her birth mother, she also sang the praises of Eva, George's second wife for raising her as her own daughter.
La Crosse is where Marilyn met the love of her life, Frank Charles Tillman. Fortunately for Frank he and Marilyn grew up right across the street from each other! Marty and Frank were married on Nov. 12
th
,1952 at White Sands Proving Grounds in N.M., where Frank was stationed. They returned to La Crosse to start their family of six children. After several years in La Crosse a job opportunity for Frank came up and Marilyn and her family moved to Appleton WI.
While living in Appleton, Marilyn became involved in many local groups and social clubs and found herself at a high level in many of them. Marilyn also enjoyed having many different jobs in the valley, the most gratifying she would to us was being a "teachers aid" for many years in the Appleton area school district. Marilyn Loved her teaching job until her retirement when she and Frank decided that it was time to move to their dream home in Naples FL., where their daughter Lynne was already living.
Marilyn and Frank enjoyed their new house and their retirement years making new friends in their community, swimming and playing cards at the clubhouse as well as rescuing dogs from the local shelters.
Tragedy struck Marilyn again when Frank passed away just five years into their "Floridian" dream. Marilyn eventually was able to continue to pass her time with being the neighborhood dog walker and being part of a Mah Jongg club. After an illness Marilyn's daughter Lynne moved in to help her mom to recover. Lynne did that until Marty's youngest son Ray and his partner came to live with to continue helping with increasing health concerns.
After 26 years in Florida, Marilyn decided that she wanted to return to her Wisconsin roots. That decision was part of her desire to spend her final years near her Wisconsin family. Living in Neenah, Marilyn enjoyed catching up with her kids and her meeting new grandchildren. After only eleven short months back in Wisconsin, Marilyn passed. Her passing was made peaceful and gentle with care and support form of family and hospice nurses. Marilyn died quietly and gracefully in her bed with her family at her side.
Marilyn was proceeded in death by her husband Frank; her son, David (5 years old at passing); her father and mother, George and Virginia Wolff; and her stepmother, Eva Wolff.
Marilyn is survived by her sister, Cynthia Lange; her brother, John Wolff; and her children, Stephen (Natalia), Lynne, Mark (Susan), Ken (Carol) and Ray (Gary) Tillman. Marilyn was also proud to have 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
A special thanks to Liz and Savanah from Compasses Hospice for their kindness and care.
A celebration of Marilyn's life will be announced at a later date.
