Obituary

Martin “Marty” G. Mendelson Jr., age 89, passed away on March 26, 2026, in Milwaukee, WI. He was born on June 23, 1936, to parents, Martin G. Mendelson Sr., and Cecilia (Arndt) Mendelson, in Chicago, IL.

After high school, he served in the United States Army. He started as a cook, then cross trained for heavy equipment mechanic. He was active during the 50’s occupation and Peace Soldiers Movement. He spend six years in Germany and assisted during the Berlin Wall Era.

He returned to the states and on December 4, 1975, he married Harriet Amelia (Lodenthin). Martin continued to use his skills by doing small vehicle maintenance and driving semi-truck.

In his free time, he enjoyed traveling with his mother abroad- especially to Israel and the Holy Land. Martin also enjoyed watching history television shows and the occasional Trump debate. Spending time with family was always cherished, along with Friday night fish fry at Parnell’s and sharing a Portillo’s Chicago Dog.

He is survived by his sons, Art and his wife, Suzy and then their children and grandchildren, Butch and his children and grandchildren; stepdaughter, Christine and her children; great-grandson, Troy Williams; sister, “Sis”; and several other family and friends.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Harriet.

Inurnment will be on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the Northwoods VA National Cemetery at noon.
