Mary Louise Davis
October 17, 1940 – May 7, 2025
Mary Louise Davis, 84, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at home on May 7, 2025, surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness.
Born on October 17, 1940, to Bernice and Rayno Romme, Mary lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service. She married William "Bill" Davis on October 25, 1958, at Peace Lutheran Church. Together they built a life full of love and purpose.
Mary is survived by her sons, David Davis (Kimberley Glover) and Michael (Lori) Davis; grandchildren, Nicole Berndt, Lindsey Hayes, Bradley (Kurstin) Davis and Neal (Lauren) Davis; great-grandchildren, Mason Berndt, Peyton and Ashton Woods, Alexis and AJ Hayes, Emelyn, Alaina, Olivia Davis, Skylar, Landon and Willow Davis. She is also survived by her siblings, Sue (Dick) Rutledge, Carol (Tom) Bast, Tom (Audra) Romme and Jim (Deborah) Romme; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents, Bernice and Rayno Romme; in-laws, Marvin Davis, Beatrice (Sy Kadinger) Davis, Josephine Beyer and Andy Anderson; her brother and sister-in-law, Bill Romme and Jean Schlaeger; her nephew, Paul Davis; brother in-law, Ron Davis and sister in-law, Donna Morgan.
Mary volunteered as a hospice caregiver for more than 20 years, giving comfort and dignity to others. She was rarely still—always helping at church, volunteering at food pantries, catching up with friends over breakfast or lunch, or enthusiastically cheering from the sidelines at her great-grandchildren's sporting events. She always knew what time the Packers, Badgers, Brewers or Bucks were playing. Her energy, compassion, and kindness touched everyone who knew her.
Grandma would frequently say, "This too shall pass," a gentle reminder she offered often to those facing hard times. As well as "You only get to do this once; I did the best that I could. Loved a lot." Her words and her unwavering spirit will stay with us always.
Mary's faith was unshakable, and her family takes comfort in the words of Revelation 21:4: "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
The family extends special thanks to Whitney Hoeft and Ericka Kinney from Aurora Home Hospice for their exceptional care and support.
A funeral will be held on June 2nd at Peace Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. Visitation will take place from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, with a service to follow. A private family burial will be held on June 3rd.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to Peace Lutheran Church in her honor.
We love you, Grandma.
