Obituary

Mary Jo Bochinski Zier, left this world on Saturday, March 18, 2017, after a valiant year long fight with breast cancer. She died at Aurora Medical Center with her family by her side at the age of 75. She was born on December 1, 1941, in Oshkosh, to Joseph and Marie Sipple Bochinski. The only daughter with five brothers, she was their "babe sis." Mary married Robert Zier on Friday, April 13, 1962, when they eloped to Bloomington, Indiana. They would have celebrated 55 years together next month. Mary was employed at Lennox Candles, Morgan Doors, and then provided home child care for several years before she retired. She had a love for games and was one of the founding members of a card club that she belonged to for at least 50 years with several of her cousins. Every holiday was filled with board games as well as several family game nights on Fridays or Saturdays. Mary was an avid bingo player through the years and had several trips to Oneida and Las Vegas to play the slots. She was known affectionately as the "black widow" in the croquet circuit and her record remains undefeated to this day. Mary enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packer games and hosted many game day meals. She made a mean dumpling and cooked for many holidays over the years. She had a deep love for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary will be greatly missed by her family, her dog, Snuffy, and her dear friend, Dottie, of many years. Survivors include her husband, Robert Zier; her children, Timothy (Kay) Zier, Connie Zier, Robert (Gayle) Zier, and Joseph (Lisa) Zier; grandchildren, Cheryl Zier, Shaun Kalmerton, Kevin (Erica) Kalmerton, Gina Raschke, Shawnna Zier, Robbie Zier, Rebeca Zier, and Keegan Zier; great-grandchildren, Alana Kalmerton, Conner and Alex Raschke; her brothers, Tom (Linda) Bochinski, Jim (Judy) Bochinski, Jack (Sue) Bochinski; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Bochinski. Preceding Mary in death are her parents, two brothers, Joseph and Jerry Bochinski, and a sister-in-law, Lois Bochinski. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Roxy, 571 N. Main Street, in Oshkosh, on Sunday, March 26, 2017, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Thank you to the staff of Aurora ER and ICU, especially Terri G., Dr. Chamseddin, Dr. Sumit Ringwala and also a special thank you to Dr. Virvani and staff for the ongoing care given to Mary over the past year.
