Michael Binder, age 90, of Oshkosh, passed away in his home Thursday, October 18th, 2012. In true Mike fashion, he wrote his own obituary. It goes like this:
"I, Michael S. Binder, died or passed away, I'm not sure which, on October 18th, 2012. I was born on December 20th, 1921, son of Michael and Mary Matsche Binder. I had a very nice childhood because of my parents and brothers and sisters. Especially my Ma, who raised 10 kids during the Great Depression of the 1930's – when you didn't know where your next meal was coming from. I couldn't imagine surviving if she had died before we were all grown up.
I married Barbara Fisher on June 9th, 1945. She was a great wife and mother. She preceded me in death on July 5th, 2009. I could never forget 64 years of a great marriage. We had 3 kids together; David (Marilyn) Binder, Terry (Sandy) Binder, and Mary (Charlie) Hirn. As I got older and started falling apart, they were always there for me – I didn't have to ask.
Some people don't like to go out to a cemetery saying it's a sad place. I always felt good because of the nice life those folks helped me have."
We will miss our witty and beloved dear Dad and Grandpa of 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. His endless stories, jokes and fun-loving interaction leave us with many fond memories. He has inspired all of us to live our lives with no regrets. Thanks, Dad!
The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, from 9:00 AM until the memorial service at 11:00 AM with Father William Van De Kreeke officiating.
