Michael P. “Mike” Haig

(MPH - Miles Per Hour)

February 11, 1958 - January 19, 2026

Michael P. “Mike” Haig, age 67, affectionately known as “Miles Per Hour”, gained his wings at Aurora Medical Center on January 19, 2026, with his loving wife, June, by his side.

Mike was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on February 11, 1958 to the late James and Patricia (DeChant) Haig. Mike attended UW Oshkosh where he met his soulmate and best friend, June Grenzer. They were united in Holy Matrimony on July 15, 1989 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Chilton, Wisconsin.

Mike and June hosted and very much loved their four Global Outreach children: Filip (Betka) Macko, Slovakia; Milda Gausyte, Lithuania; Gergely (Reka) Fekete, Hungary; Cezary Kruszewski, Poland. They also were blessed with three international grandchildren: Max and Kamila, Slovakia; Csongor, Hungary.

Mike spent many years as a salesperson for various companies, with the last one being Cumulus Broadcasting, Inc. He loved the radio business because his dad and other relatives also worked in that industry. He was very creative and loved to talk to and serve his customers.

Mike had a heart of gold and was always helping someone with something. It didn’t matter what time of day or night it was, if someone needed help, Mike was there. He loved going to James Bond movies on opening day with family and friends. In fact, the day of his wedding rehearsal was the opening of a new Bond movie, and of course, Mike went and still made it back just in time for the rehearsal to begin. Apparently, a few speed limits were broken that day!

He was an avid gun collector and loved going to gun shows with his best buddies, especially Dennis McCarthy. EAA and airplanes were also a passion. He attended the AirVenture Show from opening to closing every day. He served as president of EAA Chapter 252 (WarBirds) for several years which was a big honor for him; and loved volunteering at EAA’s Young Eagles annual fundraising dinner. He and a few buddies cooked for over 10 years at the annual Men Who Cook Fundraiser benefiting the Christine Ann Center. Mike sang in the men’s choir at St Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, volunteered at the annual church picnic, ran the St. Raphael Christmas Tree Sale for his church for years; and many other volunteer activities.

One of Mike’s greatest pleasures was spending time with children, especially his nieces and nephews. Mike loved to travel, and took many trips with June and friends, including numerous international trips where they visited the family and friends of their Global Outreach children. Mike loved to make people happy, especially his wife. His motto was that if June was happy, he was happy. Another MPH saying, considering all the frigid temperatures lately, was: “I’m ok with really cold weather, because I don’t have to shovel it.”

Mike is survived by his soul mate, June; sisters, Maureen Haig and Jamie Haig. Sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Mike and Bev Grenzer, Sue Grenzer and partner Al Ariail, Patty and Marvin Jr Ecker, Mark Gillingham. Nieces and Nephews: Michele Edge (special friend Daniel Holtum), Trish (Drew) Bledsoe, Rob Edge, Matt Haig (special friend Kit Manuel), Chloe (Nate) Webster, Jered Ecker (special friend Tasha Bruce), Nick Grenzer (fiancée Abby Ebert), Brittany (Mike) Burg, Ann Grenzer, Anjel (Nathan) Van Winkle. Aunt Naomi Haig, and great nieces and nephews along with many cousins and very cherished friends who were considered his family of choice. He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws along with his brothers and sisters: Colleen (Erven) Edge, Tim Haig, Kathy Haig, Jim Haig.

His family is especially grateful to all the EMTs, the doctors, nurses and care team at Aurora, the Aurora Hospice team, and all those who visited during his hospital stay. Your kindness will never be forgotten. Also, a very special thank you to Dr. Scott Vander Wielen who went way above and beyond to help Mike and June these past years with whatever was needed. Dr. Scott was one of Mike’s “angels”.

Visitation and funeral service will be at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 830 S. Westhaven Drive, Oshkosh, WI on Saturday, April 25, 2026 with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, and then a Celebration of Mike’s Life Luncheon at the church. Mike loved Hawaiian shirts and bright colors, so feel free to dress accordingly.

In lieu of flowers, make a donation in Mike’s name to Global Outreach: A Catholic Exchange Program.
