Obituary

Muriel "Sis" Schmitz, age 85, of Oshkosh, died on June 9, 2012 at Eden Meadows Rehabilitation Center. Muriel was born on September 8, 1926 in Redgranite, the daughter of the late John "Jack" Claude Allen and Eunice Woodruff (Couse) Allen. At the age of 16 Muriel graduated from Redgranite High School with the Class of 1943 and had many varied jobs in her lifetime. On July 26, 1974 Muriel married William (Bill) Schmitz in Oshkosh.
Muriel was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America as a den leader with her son's Pack. She also volunteered with her daughter as a day camp leader for the Girl Scouts. Muriel also loved to travel, visiting family members and taking several international trips. Muriel's hobbies included: sewing, craft work, playing cards, working both jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and watching the birds, squirrels, and rabbits in her backyard as well as in her neighbor's yard. She loved to visit with people, sharing her experiences. Muriel will be remembered for her "Road Trips" where she visited her cherished friends and frequented the occasional casino. Muriel embraced life with all she had.
Muriel is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, William; children: Gary (Judy) McClleland and Sally (Peter) Dugenske; grandchildren: Melissa (Dave) Wizner, Jennifer (Tom) Hendryx, Cary (Kimberly) Dugenske, Bradley Dugenske and Timothy Dugenske; great-grandchildren: Marina Buzzell, Christie Buzzell and Abigail Dugenske; and sisters: Audrey Benes and Shelby (Jim) Frohmader. Muriel is further survived by many nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law. Muriel was preceded in death by two husbands: Arden K. McClelland and Harvey W. Kuehneman; daughter, Linda L. Kaping; brother, Chester A. Allen; and sister, Olive Sroka.
The past year has been a challenge health-wise, nevertheless, Muriel was always ready for an outing. Muriel enjoyed spending quiet times with her husband, no matter where they would be. Muriel had a passion for life, and wanted to share that with the people around her. She was looking forward to returning home from Eden Meadows when she suddenly passed away.
Muriel was a truly amazing individual, loved by all, and will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
Muriel is being cremated per her request and no formal services will be held. Inurnment will be at Foster Road Cemetery in Redgranite at a later date.
The family would like to thank the emergency room staff at Mercy Medical Center, the inpatient staff of Mercy Medical Center, Mercy Oakwood Cardiology for their dedication and devotion to Muriel's continued care, to Affinity Ministry Services Home Care and the caregivers at Affinity Hospice, and to the staff at Eden Meadows for the compassion and love given to Muriel while in their care.
