Obituary

Mr. Randall N. Procknow, age 75, died at his residence April 2, 2025, as a result of a long struggle with health issues.

Randy was born August 11, 1949, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  His parents were Roy W. "Doc" and Dorothy E. (Kunde) Procknow.  His sister was Jeanne Kostmerchock and his brothers were David R. Procknow and Steven H. Procknow.  Randy grew up in Oshkosh in a house on Ohio Street built by his great-grandparents.  He remembered the wooden sidewalks on Delaware Street that led him to South Park Elementary and Junior High Schools.  Randy graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1967.  He also graduated from the Mercy Medical Center School of Nursing in June of 1973.  He was named student nurse of the year there in 1972.

Randy married Kathryn "Kay" Heidl on May 11, 1973, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Oshkosh.  Randy was Lutheran by faith but as a kid attended and was confirmed at Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Oshkosh, where a number of his dad's relatives had attended.

Randy was known for his good sense of humor ("Dad, I'm sick."  "Are your feet hot?"  "Yes!"  "Then take your socks off.").  He was also known as a great cook.  Chicken dumpling soup was a specialty ("Stir from the bottom!").  He also enjoyed keeping up the yard, feeding the birds in favor, and chasing away the birds, chipmunks, raccoons, rabbits, possums, cats, and squirrels in disfavor ("Git, git, git!").

Randy is survived by Kay Procknow, advocate and friend; his kids, Jason R. Procknow, Erin (Tim) Horejs, Andrea (Tony) Rossi, Ashley (Mark) Manske, and Edward "Ted" Procknow.  He is also survived by his grandkids, Kalvin Horejs, Kate Horejs, Connor Rossi, Anthony "AJ" Rossi, Jr., and Malcolm Manske.  Randy is further survived by his sister-in-law, Carol Procknow; his nephew, nieces, other relatives, good friends, and good neighbors.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brothers; nieces, Carrie MacLachlan and Robin Blythe; and sister-in-law, Nancy Procknow Swiertz.

Private services for Randy will be held.  Inurnment will take place at Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Oshkosh.  The family wish to thank the staff at Little Chute Health Services for their diligent and thoughtful care during Randy's stay.  Their work is greatly appreciated.  The family also wish to thank the staff of Moments Hospice who added another level of expertise during Randy's final months.  The family are grateful for their attention and concern.

Rest in peace, Dad!
