Richard A. Malchow
Richard Arthur Malchow, affectionately known as "Dick," of Oshkosh, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. He was born on October 9, 1938, the son of Richard J. "Yidda" Malchow and Esther (Shields) Malchow. On August 18, 1962, he was united in marriage to Marlene (Billington) Malchow at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oshkosh.
Richard honorably served in the United States Navy aboard the USS
Aucilla
, a naval vessel tasked with delivering essential liquids such as fuel and water to forward battle areas. His military service allowed him the opportunity to travel and experience numerous countries around the world. Following his time in the Navy, Richard was employed by Rockwell International, where he worked diligently for 35 years.
He is survived by his three loving children: Richard John "RJ" Malchow of Oshkosh; Tracy (Dean) Matsche of Appleton and Ericka (Ralph) Potratz of Oshkosh. He was a devoted grandfather to five cherished grandchildren: Marcus Matsche, Kaylee (Sam) Shafer, Marlee Potratz, Lauren (Nick) Hearn and Lea Potratz.
Richard is also survived by his sister, Shirley Rennert of Vero Beach, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant sister, Lydia; his siblings, Donald (Rita) Malchow, Vivian (Jim) Van Dorn, Jack (Rita) Malchow, Dorothy Malchow, Robert "Bobby" Malchow, Betty (Bob) Jungwirth and Brownie (Bunner) Kuhnz.
Richard had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing horseshoes. He also took great joy in attending his grandchildren's various activities and events. Over the years, he shared his home and heart with many beloved dogs and cats.
In accordance with Richard's wishes, no formal funeral services will be held. A private family gathering will take place and a military salute will be performed at a later date in his honor.
