Richard J. Schlichting, age 73, passed away at home on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. He was born in Oshkosh on July 25, 1944 the son of the late Edward and Ella (Lemke) Schlichting. Dick joined the Navy after high school. On February 15, 1997 he married Linda Walsh in Oshkosh. Dick attended Fox Valley Tech to become a firefighter and was a longtime firefighter for the City of Oshkosh. He was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church. As a volunteer, Dick was a charter member of Butte des Morts Lions Club and later a member of the Van Dyne Lions Club. He enjoyed hunting, going up north and particularly liked boating. Dick will be remembered for always being willing to help, and the love he had for his family. He was a proud grandfather.
Dick is survived by his wife, Linda; sons: Troy (Kim) Schlichting and Jeffrey (Jeanne) Schlichting; step-daughters: Annette (Michael) Opheim and Sally (Raphael) Solorzano; nine grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Shirley (Vernon) Staerkel, Edward (Barb) Schlichting, Russell (Chris) Schlichting, David (Kathy) Schlichting, William (Alexis) Schlichting and Peggy (Mark) Potter; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Janice Barnes.
A visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at ST. JOHN LUTHERAN CHURCH, 491 Old Oregon Rd., Oshkosh, with Rev. James Reiff officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park, Oshkosh.

Memorials in Dick's name will be given to the Van Dyne Lions Club and St. John Lutheran Church.
