Robert W. Sandlin Jr., age 63, passed away on December 21, 2010. Bob was born in Florence, Alabama, to Robert W. and Jeanette (Swenson) Sandlin Sr. He moved to the Appleton area in 1960 and then to Manitowish Waters in January 1997. Bob graduated from Neenah High School in 1965. He attended UW-Oshkosh and Brown College in St. Paul, Minnesota. Bob became a radio announcer at WMIR in Lake Geneva, followed by WHBY in Appleton, and WKAU in Kaukauna. He has been involved in the real estate profession since 1981, beginning with Century 21 as a Realtor and later became a trainer and educator. Bob has continued to be an active member of the Northwoods Association of Realtors where, in the past, he had served as President and Ethics Chairman. Throughout his career, Bob received several awards such as Rookie of the Year, Realtor of the Year, and the Distinguished Service Award. Bob owned and operated Midwest Center Real Estate School and Midwest Realty, LLC.
Bob enjoyed acting, music, writing and riding his scooter. He has continued to be a member of Green Apple Folk Society of Appleton/Green Bay and former entertainer and member of the Crystal River Trio folk group. Since 1997, he has enjoyed living in the serenity and beauty of the northwoods and enjoyed touring the Manitowish Waters Chain of Lakes in his pontoon boat with his friends. Bob felt his greatest gift was making people laugh, and throughout his ordeal with cancer, he kept his great sense of humor.
Bob is survived by his wife, Enid Cleaves; two daughters, LaLayna Sundeen and Amber Sandlin, both of Nashville, Tennessee; his father, Robert W. Sandlin Sr.; one brother, Russell Sandlin; one sister, Cheri Sandlin; and a niece, Rachel.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, December 27, 2010, at the Manitowish Waters Community Center, Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin, with a lunch to follow.
