Dr. Rubén J. de Hoyos passed away on July 28, 2011 under the excellent care of the staff at Eden Meadows Rehabilitation Facility in the Town of Algoma, WI.
Dr. de Hoyos was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and after a few years of exploring the world, he moved to New York City, N.Y. where he received his Doctorate in Philosophy from New York University. Shortly after, he accepted a professorship at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh where he taught political science and served as advisor to the Model Organization of America States until his retirement in 2004.
As there really is no retirement for a man of letters, Dr. de Hoyos continued to write and present his theories throughout the years at conferences around the world. His most recent area of focus was on the economic and political similarities between the Pearl River Delta Economic Zone in the People's Republic of China and Mercosur (Southern Common Market) in South America—for which he made frequent trips to Macau and Hong Kong.
He is survived, and will be sorely missed, by his bride-for-life Maria Cristina (Moyano Funes) de Hoyos, his son Alejandro Rubén de Hoyos, and his daughter-in-law Maggie Michol (Stock) de Hoyos.
Arrangements for a remembrance ceremony are currently in the works.
