Sarah “Sally” Josephine Mentzer

April 22, 1938 – May 11, 2026

Sarah “Sally” Josephine Mentzer, 88, of Ripon, Wisconsin, formerly of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026. She was born in New London, Wisconsin, on April 22, 1938, to Laurence Charles Rozelle and Mable Louise (Stedjee) Rozelle. She graduated from Washington High School in 1956.

Sally spent many years as a Navy spouse, living in several places beyond Wisconsin, including Key West, Florida; Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Florence, Kentucky. She worked throughout her life in clerical, customer service, and service management roles.

She was a capable and generous person. She cooked and baked for others without fanfare. She read constantly and found steady companionship in books and her Kindle. She was a skilled fiber artist, and many people — family, friends, and community members — have something she made with her hands.

She was preceded in death by her former spouses, Gerhardt Paul Hoffman, William Kenneth Angell and Harry Alfred Mentzer Jr.; and her longtime companion, Sean Labell; her parents; and her siblings, Melnee Zernicke, Carol Thompson, Doris Frye, Barbara Rozelle, Diana Rozelle and Harry Rozelle.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Dilley (Sturgeon Bay, WI); her sister‑in‑law, Mildred Rozelle (Appleton, WI); her sons, Erik‑Paul Hoffman (Mona) of Winter Garden, FL, Vincent Angell (Lisa) of Oshkosh, WI and Joseph Angell of Mesa, AZ; and her grandchildren, Brittany Angell (Phoenix, AZ), Griffin (Tyler) Angell (Oshkosh, WI) and Isabel Angell (Oshkosh, WI).

The family extends sincere thanks to the staff of Prairie Place in Ripon for their kindness and care during Sally’s final years, and to the SSM Health Hospice team for their support in her last days.

A celebration of life will be held June 6, 2026 at La Sure’s in Oshkosh, Wisconsin from 11am -3pm.
