Sheila Lynne (Sheffer) Alvarez, 70, Oshkosh, died Sunday morning, September 29, 2024, at Aurora Health Center.   She fought fiercely & courageously many years with heart disease.  At this time, God decided Sheila had completed her purpose on earth and now could join her heavenly family.

She was born August 12, 1954, to George C. Sheffer and Ruth I. Sheffer-Fuchs.  Sheila married Alfonso V. Alvarez, originally from Madrid, Spain on November 3, 1979.  Together they had two children, Amy Suzanne (Tim) and Alfonso "Tony" Antonio (Tess).  She has three grandchildren who were the light of her life: Taya Marie, Abigail Ruth and Alfonso Domnie.

She has a brother, Steve (Sue) Sheffer and 2 remaining sisters, Sue (Tom) Sheffer-Meyer and Barb (Karl) Wege.  Sheila always had a special bond with sister Sandee's children.  Laurie (Roger) Knudson, Lynne (Jerry) Gruel, Joel & Jason Porst, along with Katlyn Kryzaniak who lived with Sheila during high school.  Laurie has been not only her niece, but best friend along with her family in MN, Roger, Erik, and Zach.

Sheila worked at Oshkosh Care Center as the Activity Director until her first child was born, then was a stay-at-home mom until both of her children went to Read School. In September 1989, she went back to work at Oshkosh North High school working as a supervisor and then Door Monitor from 2001 until she retired in June 2022.

She was a lifelong member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church now renamed, Christ Our Savior Church.  She was baptized, confirmed and married in this church.

She is survived by both her children, Amy & Tony; and her sister-in-law, Manuela "Lita" Alvarez.   She has several nieces and nephews, Laurie (Roger) Knudson, Lynne Gruel (son, Jacob), Joel Porst & Jason Porst (daughter, Lindsay), Wendy (Nate) (daughters, Elia & Harper) Larsen, James Wagner, Deb (Perry) Muche, Chris (Bertie) Ryskoski, John Ryskoski, Robert (Sonia) Gamsky, and Allen Alvarez.  A lot of great nieces and nephews as well.

She is proceeded in death by her beloved husband, Alfonso; her parents, George and Ruth Sheffer; stepfather, Richard Fuchs; and lastly her oldest sister, Sandee Nelson.

Visitation will be held from 11am-2pm to be followed at 2pm by a Celebration of Life Service at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1860 Wisconsin Street, Oshkosh, on Saturday, October 19, 2024. Pastor Connie Weiss will officiate.
