Obituary

Shelly Kaye (Galitz) Ortiz passed away on February 20, 2025, after courageously battling Multiple Sclerosis for 40 years. She was born on May 22, 1962, in Wisconsin Dells, WI, where she spent her childhood and formative years. After graduating from high school, Shelly enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving her country for four years before being honorably discharged and settling in Oshkosh, WI where she lived out the rest of her days.

Shelly is survived by her devoted life partner, Marie Desautell; her loving daughter, Kaily Ortiz-Cooper (Josh); and her cherished step-daughter, Deanna Darling (Ryan); step-son Matthew Desautell (Karleen); her treasured grandson, Maxuel Cooper; and her step-grandchildren, Matthew Jr., Austin Tyler, and Naomia Jane Desautell. She is also survived by her parents, Richard and Marlene Galitz; her sisters, Vicky Galitz (Jeff Olson) and Wendy (Robert) Fischer; and her nieces, Mackenzie (Bobby) Leggett and Alli Kaufman (Jason).

Shelly had a deep love for the outdoors and cherished being active. Whether it was exploring nature or enjoying the simple pleasure of mowing the lawn, she found joy in life's everyday moments. A passionate sports fan, she never missed an opportunity to cheer on her beloved Green Bay Packers. Even as her disease progressed and limited her mobility, Shelly maintained her adventurous spirit. She adored taking spontaneous car rides with her family, fondly referred to as "Shelly Rides," where the journey itself was more important than the destination. Music was always a big part of these rides because Shelly loved music tremendously, filling the car with tunes that brought joy and memories to everyone onboard.

Shelly's kindness, resilience, and warm presence touched the lives of many. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.

A special thanks to Michelle Cruz and Molly Littleton for their help with caring for Shelly and her family in the last years of her life. She absolutely loved you both.
