Obituary

Steffen Christopher Clavette, 35, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, passed away on October 8, 2026, following a long and difficult illness.
Steffen was born May 10, 1991 and grew up in Oshkosh. He briefly attended the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and worked in food service for much of his life.
Steffen had an amazing sense of humor and loved making people laugh. He loved music, food, and gaming both online and in person with his friends. He valued the friendships he made throughout his life and the time he was able to spend with the people he loved. Steffen also had a special place in his heart for his fluffy dog, Lucy, whom he adored.
Steffen lived with diabetes for many years and struggled with managing the disease, which eventually led to significant health challenges. While his illness became a large part of his life, it was never all of who Steffen was. He was a son, brother, uncle and friend who was very loved and will be deeply missed.
Steffen is survived by his mother, Jennifer Clavette; his sister, Sarah Engel and brother-in- law, Andrew Engel; his nephews, Calvin and Wesley Engel; his niece, Isla Engel; his maternal grandparents, David and Susan Todd; his uncle, Jeff Todd; his cousins, Sydney (Garett) Todd and Justin Todd; Steele and Eero; his aunt, Emily Todd, and his aunt, Lara Funke Nothem and her children, Marissa, Andrew, Julia and Hannah Nothem; his aunt, Martha Funke Carter; his uncle, Marcus Carter; and his cousins, Laius and Gianna Carter; and his father, Michael Funke.
Steffen was preceded in death by his beloved paternal grandparents, Thomas and Beatrice Funke; his paternal great-grandfather, Robert Funke; and his uncle, Jeff Nothem. Steffen loved his Uncle Jeff very much and looked up to him throughout his life. Jeff held a very special place in Steffen’s heart.
Steffen’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Aurora Medical Center in Oshkosh for their unwavering care throughout his illness. His doctors, nurses, CNAs and aides treated Steffen and our entire family with so much empathy, care and warmth. We will always be grateful for the compassion they showed him and all of us during some of the most difficult moments.
A small celebration of Steffen’s life will be held, with details to be shared with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Steffen’s memory to the American Diabetes Association.
