Obituary

Steven "Steve" Wesenberg, 61, passed away after a brief illness, Saturday, October 22, 2011 with his loving family by his side. Steve was born November 21, 1949, to Martin and Janice Wesenberg in Oshkosh. Steve graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1968 and served in the Army Nation Guard. Steve was a 3rd generation owner of Jerry's Bar for 40 years, which opened in 1911 by his grandfather. On July 11, 1970, Steve married the "love of his life" Jacquelyn Runkel, they were blessed with two daughters, Jill Klug and Colleen Botterman, both of Oshkosh.

Steve was a lifetime member of the Otter Street Fishing Club of which he was a past president. He devoted his time and talent to the charitable work that the club has done over the years. His generosity was always evident with donations to the Children's Fisheree, sponsored by the Otter Street Fishing Club. He will be missed at the event as well as his presence at Jerry's. He enjoyed time in Big Flats with his two "sons", his wife and many of his friends, deer hunting and turkey hunting.

Steve is survived by his wife, Jacquie, his daughters, Jill (Matt) Klug, their children, Grace and Riley, and Colleen (Jason) Botterman, their children, Sophia and Ava; his father, Martin Wesenberg; his sisters, Sharon (John) Engel, all of Oshkosh, and Debra (John) Herson, of
Alpharetta, GA. He is further survived by his brother-in-law, William Kroll of Kenosha; sister-in-law, Carol Hansen of Oshkosh, as well as nieces and nephews, Karen (Allen) McDowell, Kelly Hall, James Kroll, Jeff (Bonnie) Hansen and their family, Emily, Claire, Maggie and Nicholas of Deerfield, IL, Heidi (Jim Maninen) Hansen of Northfield, IL, Scott (Missy) Engel, their son, Brett; Tricia (Roger) Nelson, their daughter Lauren, of Oshkosh; Ainsley (Linell) Greene, Michael (Brandi) Herson, Taylor Herson, Skyler Herson of Alpharetta, GA, Nicholas, Corbin and Brandon Runkel of Elgin, IL, his aunt, June Wesenberg, numerous cousins, as well as his extended family at Jerry's.

Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Janice Wesenberg; his mother and father-in-law, Beatrice and Jack Runkel, and two brothers-in-law, Jerry Hansen, and Robert Runkel.

A private funeral service will be held for family members at First Presbyterian Church in Oshkosh, with Pastor Tom Willadsen presiding. A celebration of Steve's life will be held at Jerry's on Saturday, October 29 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Memorials appreciated to Otter Street Children's Fisheree or the American Cancer Society.The family would like to thank all of the friends and family who helped care for Steve and his family. Everyone who took time to bring food, take our dog "Tank" for walks or had kind words. We know who you are and appreciate you. Thanks to our church families, our work families and our bar family, you are all very special to us. Thanks to Ministry Hospice, especially Cheryl and Jackie.
