Terrence J. Zalas, age 68, of Fremont WI, went to his heavenly home on February 26. He was born on August 4, 1956, to Benjamin and Helen (Sygler) Zalas. Terry was raised in Indiana. At sixteen, Terry moved to Oshkosh, where his father took a job with the University.
Terry married Connie (Wittchow) on March 3, 1979, at Plymouth Congregational Church in Oshkosh. They moved to Hobart, Indiana where he attended the IBEW apprenticeship program. Terry worked as an electrician out of this local until 1993. He then moved his family to Greenville, South Carolina, where he attended the Evangelical Institute for Biblical training. After graduation Terry moved his family to Fremont, WI., where he worked as an electrician out of local 577. He also started a small home church. Terry was forced into retirement following a diagnosis of Frontal temporal dementia.
Terry and Connie were blessed with eleven children: Jonathan (deceased), Joseph, Jason (Christina), Florence (Jeremy) Kersten, Jeremiah (Erica), Rachael Holbrook, Benjamin, Kenneth (Indigo), Carol (Heath) Belgum, Caleb (Brenna) and Helen (Jacob Wollin). Terry loved his big family. He taught his children to work hard, to laugh and to walk with God. There were many good memories made around the dinner table. He will be greatly missed, yet we are so thankful he is finally free of this awful disease.
Terry leaves behind his wife; and children; twenty-three grandchildren; and five siblings, Kathy (Dave) Soderquist, Eric, Peggy Pavese (Dan), Cyndie (Brian) Dearing and Judy (Steve) Frey; and In-laws, Gary (Chris) Wittchow and Debbie Schraa.
He was proceeded in death by his brother, William; his son, Jonathan; parents, Ben and Helen Zalas; and In-laws, Ken and Carol Wittchow; and brother-in-law, John Bogener.
The family would like to thank Terry's Dr's and medical staff for their kind and wise counsel and support. We had many good friends and family who walked this road with us. Having your prayers and love carried us through many rough patches. We are eternally grateful. We would like to thank the staff at Courtyard in Oshkosh for their wonderful care for Terry. You always were willing to do whatever was necessary to make Terry's life better. We also would like to thank Preceptor Hospice for your wonderful care through these final months.
Per the families wishes, a private service will be held at a later date.
