Thomas "Tom" Lee Charles, age 79, passed away with his family by his side on June 7, 2025, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He was born on September 23, 1945, to parents, Melvin and LaVerne (Judkins) Charles, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
After high school, Tom enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served for a four-year term during the Vietnam War era. While enlisted, he learned the electronics and radio communication skills needed to operate and maintain a ham radio. Later on, he was able to continue this as a hobby and talked to people all around the world and even to astronauts in space.
On September 29, 1973, he married the love of his life, Barbara Miller, at St. Peters Church in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Together, they raised a son, Christopher.
Tom enjoyed tinkering with anything electronic. He often worked on upgrading PC computers as a hobby. Tom also enjoyed learning to write computer code. When the weather was nice, Tom would enjoy riding his bike in the country.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Charles; son, Christopher (Alexis) Charles; grandchildren, Joshua and Nathanael Charles; sister, Rene (Val) Palmer; nieces and nephews, Shawn (Sarah) Palmer, Alisa (Paul) Matthies, Aaron (Sarah) Palmer and Kim (Justin) Mueller.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Melvin and LaVerne (Judkins) Charles.
Per his wishes, no formal services will be held.
