Thomas Lloyd Paulson, known to family and friends as Tom, age 72, passed away on February 2, 2026. He was born on March 2, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois, to Audrey Elizabeth Paulson and Thomas Lloyd Paulson, both of whom preceded him in death.Tom grew up in Chicago and later spent much of his life in Waupaca, Wisconsin, where he and his family created many lasting memories. One of his many big ideas was starting a hobby farm, where he raised cows, chickens, pigs and turkeys—much to the amazement (and occasional frustration) of his kids who had grown up in the city. In time, those years became some of the family’s most treasured memories.He was the beloved husband of Sheryl Lynn (Gorski) Paulson. The two were married on February 10, 1973, after meeting while attending Carl Schurz High School in Chicago, where they famously shared a locker. Their marriage spanned more than five decades and was built on love, humor and deep devotion. Tom was thoughtful and caring toward Sheryl, always thinking of her and finding small ways to show his love—whether through a surprise, a shared outing, or bringing home garnishes from a Bloody Mary simply because he knew it would make her smile. In his working years, Tom built a career in the roofing industry before retiring. He had many hobbies and interests, including playing guitar, singing, fishing, stained glass work, wood carving and relaxing on the patio while smoking his pipe. He also enjoyed shopping, going out to eat, visiting the casino and sharing laughs with family and friends.Above all else, Tom loved his family. He cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and took great pride in the life he built alongside Sheryl. His humor, warmth and presence will be deeply missed.Tom was a loving husband to Sheryl; and devoted father to children, Michelle Much (Sheldon), Thomas Paulson (Tina) and Catherine Anne Smith (Jeff). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Samantha Schoot, Caitlin Oldakowski, Stephanie Paulson, Meghan Krisel, Madden Smith, Jacob Much and Brooklyn Smith. He was also blessed to be a great-grandfather to TrayVon, Alifher, Zamiyah, Myles, Selena, Xamira and was joyfully anticipating the arrival of great-grandchild, Winsleigh. He is further survived by his siblings, Patsy Stille and Mark Paulson.He was preceded in death by his siblings, Ron Paulson, John Paulson, Cheryl Randazzo, and Judy Paulson. He was also preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Alfred Gorski and Elaine Gorski.Per his wishes, a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his honor. Thomas Lloyd Paulson will be remembered for his love of family, his laughter, his creativity, and the many lives he touched.
