Tom Thorson Eierman (1938-2024) passed away in his sleep on July 7, 2024.
Tom met his wife Lois in his freshman year of high school. He called her "Lamp" because she was the light of his life. After Tom returned from active-duty military service, they were married in 1960 and spent 64 wonderful years together.
Prior to becoming a teacher, he worked for the Blatz Brewery and as a night bridge tender in Milwaukee. He often told the story of how he almost wrecked the Edmund Fitzgerald because he had fallen asleep and woke up just in time to open the bridge before there was a crash.
His primary career was a math professor at UW Oshkosh. He worked there for 32 years, retiring in 1997. Tom also ran a successful rental business in Oshkosh
Tom's passion was hunting. He bought his first hunting land with his best friend Roger Norbeck in 1970. He spent his life creating a wonderful hunting camp for his friends and family. He introduced his children, grandchildren, and many of their friends to hunting. He firmly believed that hunting kept the family together. The only thing that could interrupt the weekend hunt was getting home in time to watch the Packers. Aside from hunting, and its associated activities, Tom enjoyed travel and visited countless countries and continents after retirement. He always said his favorite vacation was his and Lois's annual ski trip to Vail.
Tom is survived by his wife, Lois; children, Michael (Theresa), Timothy (Stacey), Maren Ziegler (Chris) and Elizabeth Moore (Matt); grandchildren, Katie, Rachel, Dan (Molly), Lindsey, Meghan, Sam, Kyra, Allison, Amelia, and Sarah; great-grandchild, Lucy; sister, Betty Strowig; niece, Pamela Puls; nephew, Greg Strowig (Lynn); grandnephew, Matt Puls (Tuesday); grandnieces, Kristin Puls and Katherine Strowig; and great-grandnephew, Calvin. He was preceded in death by his nephew, Jeffery Puls.
The family will hold a celebration of his life at the Oshkosh Convention Center, 2 N. Main St. on August 30, 2024, from 3:00pm - 7:00pm. The family will share stories of Tom and encourage others to do so also.
Thank you to the OPD, first responders, and EMT's that helped the family through a very difficult time.
Tom will be missed greatly by all the family and the many others his life has touched.
In lieu of flowers, please take a child hunting or contribute to http://kidshuntingfoundation.com. That's what he did and would have wanted
